Servo Watch · Last updated 14 September 2026
This policy explains what information Servo Watch ("the app", "we", "us") collects, why, and how it's handled. Servo Watch helps you find nearby petrol prices in Victoria, New South Wales, and Tasmania, and optionally lets you save a "Watchlist" that notifies you about price changes.
| What | Why | Required? |
|---|---|---|
| Precise device location | To center the map and find petrol stations near you | Optional — if you decline, the app falls back to a default location |
| An anonymous device identifier | Created automatically on first launch (via Firebase Anonymous Authentication) to link your saved Watchlist entries to your device, without asking for a name, email, or any sign-in | Required for Watchlist to function; not required to search for prices |
| A push-notification token | To deliver Watchlist alerts (a price drop or a change in the cheapest nearby station) to your device | Optional — only generated if you allow notifications |
| Watchlist entries you create | Stored so the app can keep checking prices in your chosen area (a search radius, a fuel type, and optionally a price target). If you turn on "Notify me", the entry is also stored on our servers so it can be evaluated for push notifications. If "Notify me" is off, the entry stays only on your device and is never sent to us. | Optional — only if you create a Watchlist entry |
| Favourite stations you save | Kept only in the app's local storage on your device, so it can show your saved stations with live prices | Optional — only if you save a favourite; never sent to our servers |
We do not collect your name, email address, phone number, contacts, photos, payment details, or browsing history. Servo Watch contains no advertising SDK and no analytics/tracking SDK.
Watchlist entries with "Notify me" turned on are stored in Cloud Firestore in a database hosted in Sydney, Australia (australia-southeast2). Watchlist entries with "Notify me" off, and your saved Favourite stations, are stored only in the app's local storage on your device and are never uploaded anywhere. Some Firebase platform services we rely on for authentication and push-notification delivery operate on Google's global infrastructure, which may process data outside Australia as part of routing those services.
Servo Watch relies on the following services to function. Each may receive limited technical data (such as your device's IP address) as a normal part of handling the request:
The prices shown in the app are published open data from state government fuel-price reporting services:
These are read-only public data sources: our servers fetch published prices from them on a schedule, and no information about you is sent to them as part of that.
Both are treated as licensed under Creative Commons Attribution 4.0: © State of Victoria accessed via the Victorian Government Developer.Vic Portal. © State of New South Wales accessed via the NSW Government FuelCheck API.
We do not sell your information, and we do not share it with advertisers or data brokers. Information is only shared with the service providers listed above, to the extent necessary to run the app, or if required by law.
Servo Watch is not directed at children and we do not knowingly collect information from children.
We handle your information in line with the Australian Privacy Principles under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth), as a matter of good practice for anyone using the app.
If this policy changes, we'll update the "Last updated" date above. Continued use of the app after a change means you accept the updated policy.
